About the Program

MCNY’s Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counseling (CASAC) nondegree certificate can be earned in as little as eight months. This program is designed to educate and prepare students who wish to care for and rehabilitate those in need due to alcohol and substance abuse. This accredited program will enable students to:

  • Focus on the psychopharmacological and physiological aspects of drugs, signs, symptoms, and stages of alcoholism, individual and group counseling skills, the ethics of confidentiality, family treatment, and multicultural issues.
  • Gain hands-on experience with a curriculum that fuses academic disciplines and applied learning into professional competence.
  • Benefit from flexible schedules designed to make education practical for working adults.
  • Potentially receive tuition reimbursement from eligible employers or funding through AmeriCorps, VESID or the Veteran’s Administration, if eligible.

MCNY CASAC certificate program graduates will be prepared for a career in substance abuse counseling, or able to enhance their skills as social worker, psychologist, psychiatrist, rehabilitation counselor, mental health counselor, substance abuse counselor, marriage and family therapist, or school counselor.
